Is EDM becoming too mainstream?

Over the last couple years electronic dance music has become one of the fastest growing music genres that exist today. EDM which used to be known as a more underground sound has developed into a more common sound to hear nowadays. Many people might even argue that EDM has lost its once indie origin. It is no secret that the world’s top electronic music producers work alongside mainstream artists today. This collaboration with mainstream artists often results in a more commercial sounding electronic music. This making it commercially and radio friendly.

Is EDM starting to lose its once pure existence? Sure the commercialization of EDM has brought in many new fans over the years but at what cost? Over time more of these new fans are seen a rave music festivals but bringing along their negativity. The problem is that these news fans do not know about the real origin of electronic music and what it stands for. The aim of electronic music is not just to create a dance atmosphere but also to exert emotions of peace, love and happiness. The EDM community is unified by music, a community with no judgment, hatred or unfair discrimination. This commercialisation of techno music is in many ways are harming our community while simultaneously developing EDM into a world class music genre, thus receiving the recognition it deserves. However, the question remains, is EDM becoming too mainstream?

EDM frees me from negativity

You know that feeling when you going through a tough time in your life and nothing makes you feel better but music. Well I can relate to that. There’s just something about EDM that has the power to make me lose myself in the music and just forget about what ever negativity I might be going through. EDM has that ability to remove all the problems from my life even if it’s just for a split second.

When I listen to EDM its like my soul has been transported to a new dimension. A place where no negativity, heartache or sorrows are present or can enter. EDM blocks away the bad things and empowers me. It gives me the strength to carry on even though I think I cannot. It not only does that, it makes me happy. There’s just something about a racy electronic beat drop that effortless puts a smile on my face.

Don’t get caught up in everyday life just turn in it up.

Does PLUR still exist?

Electronic Dance Music is a music genre that was born out of the urge to release music that represented peace, love and respect among people. But is this message starting to die in the music? Well not completely, the music still consist of the positivity that our hearts desire. It’s up to us as the EDM community to stand together in unity for the music that makes us who we are, that makes us new era hippies. Today we hear so much of negativity that takes place at raves usually caused by the newbies but whatever the case may be we need to accept them as our own and educate them about what we stand for.

We need to continue to spread and share the beauty of EDM with the world. We need to remember what we represent and stand for as a nation. A nation that stands for equality and fights against discrimination and judgement. Initially that was my aim when I started this music blog. I happen to live in an area where EDM is considered not to be that popular as other music genres like Hip Hop and R&B. This inspired me to start a music blog wherein I could share the beauty of EDM with my friends, family, community and even the world.

You may have heard of Jasper Dietze from his collaborations with Oliver Heldens, so it was no surprise when the notable DJ was the first to support the “MAMA YO!” remix from Rotterdam’s up-and-coming act. Jasper’s take on the track is a cool combination of a techy/deep house vibe, with hints of big room that keep the energy pumping.

The next remixes come from two Dutch duo’s, Bali Bandits and BOOTSMEN. The Bali Bandits give the Latin-flared original an electro house spin, perfecting that beloved Dutch sound and igniting dance floors around the globe, while the BOOTSMEN contribute their Dirty Dutch-style with a heavy-hitting rendition that will leave you wondering what hit you.

Last but not least, self-proclaimed “electroswing” duo The Sweet Life Society not only lend their talents on the original extended mix, which is at over 2 million combined YouTube views and counting, but also give “MAMA YO!” a big band makeover with their own take on the tune. With dark, circus-inspired beats and a brass section backing the track’s playful melodies, the pair from Torino, Italy, have taken “MAMA YO!” in a funky, vintage direction.

Whether you like the retro groove of Yolanda Be Cool’s remix, House vibes from Jasper Dietze, The Sweet Life Society’s dark Big Top take or the intensity from the BOOTSMEN or Bali Bandits, this diverse package is one that is sure to blow your socks off.

JES, Sunny Lax, Ciaran McAuley, Hamptons Chill - High Glow (The Remixes)

untitledzd

Expectations were high when JES decided to start work on a remix project for the genre-busting, progressive trance classic "High Glow" which she released with Tiesto under the mysterious "Taxigirl" moniker. "It's not everyday that you write a song with a guitar in a hotel bathroom and it translates perfectly to the dance floor," JES said about her experiences of writing while on tour. "As a songwriter you're always searching for inspiration, but sometimes the inspiration finds you."

Channeling the same creativity that she used to create the song, JES set about finding the perfect remixers. In an exclusive premiere on edm.com, Hungarian producer and DJ Sunny Lax delivers a full tilt, progressive trance mix that brings "High Glow" right into 2014 without compromising the enchanting beauty of the original. Extended builds and a breathtaking, anthemic string-infused plateau perfectly compliment JES' ethereal vocals. Sunny's earliest releases on Anjunabeats quickly brought him to the forefront of the progressive trance genre with support from the likes of Above & Beyond & Armin van Buuren.

Ciaran McAuley's uptempo retro UK influenced trance mix creates a surprising reinvention of the song. Keeping the emotion as it's focus and featuring layered haunting arpeggios and subliminal vocals this mix is sure to translate well to the dance floor and playlists alike.

Hamptons Chill make a welcome return to the scene with their own inspired down tempo remix of "High Glow". Their last remix (As The Rush Comes) from JES' chill out album "Into The Dawn" went on to become a staple of poolside playlists worldwide. Once again putting the cool back into chill with a truly deep mix that combines emotion and emersion in equal measure the Hamptons Chill mix turns lounging into an art form.

The High Glow Remix package will be released by Magik Muzik on October 27th with the Hamptons Chill remix to follow on November 3.

Singer-Songwriter Natalia Safran Teams with DJ/Producer Cajjmere Wray

L.A. based singer-songwriter Natalia Safran has teamed with Canadian DJ/Producer Cajjmere Wray to remix her single “All I Feel Is You” into a driving tribal/house anthem, an ode to love lost and one man’s life defying struggle.   The original single exuded a haunting, indie feel which quickly resonated with Safran’s legions of fans. For the remix, Wray weaves Safran’s bellowing vocals into a richly layered tribal vibe to create a sound that is solemn, but undeniably sexy, and beckons the listener to the dance floor.

“All I Feel Is You,” written and performed by Safran, is the featured track in the movie “Hours,” starring her good friend and collaborator Paul Walker. Following Walker’s fatal car accident on Nov. 30, 2013, Safran vowed to honor his spirit by giving back to the community whenever possible.

With the new, smoking hot dance track, Safran comments, “The original song was going to be just a closing to a beautiful film that was “Hours.” Then suddenly, because of the tragic events, became a tribute to the man we all loved and admired. The remix brings the song into another world, gives it a whole new life, so I guess the tribute lives on in another form too.”

“All I Feel Is You – Cajjmere Wray Club Mix” is currently being circulated to DJs and dance music tastemakers around the world. The commercial remix package will be available later this fall on iTunes and other online dance music retailers.

But don't let this fool you, the coolest of the cool are sweet on our boys too. With tastemakers like Shir Khan (Exloited), Nick Catchdubs (Fools Gold), RÜFÜS, Bag Raiders, and Oliver $ all declaring their love for the tune.

Listen to R Kelly - Ignition Remix (Viceroy "Jet Life" Remix)

untitled
Following the massive success of Viceroy's "Jet Life" remix series, the official Sultan of Summer has arrived with a taste of sunshine to ease you into the holiday season with this remix of the iconic R Kelly anthem, "Ignition Remix", out today via RCA Records.
In the 8th instalment of his now famed "Jet Life" remix series, the San Francisco native injects a healthy dose of tropical-bounce to the 2003 chart-topping Chocolate Factory single, serving up the perfect selection for that nostalgic dance party you've been meaning to have.
Part of his Jet Life series which includes Nelly's "Ride Wit Me", Ginuwine's “Pony”, Biggie's "Going Back To Cali" and Montell Jordan's “This is How we Do It” among others, Viceroy has figured out exactly what it takes to keep the party moving.
